HD3 PK.EXPEDI is an expedition version of the HD3, created together with Piotr Krzyżowski. The construction has been optimized for long outings, heavier gear, and terrain where the backpack becomes a working tool.
Key elements are exactly where your hands reach intuitively. Ice axes have a double attachment system; you can unclip them with one move, even wearing gloves. The front panel features loops and straps for a GPS, communicator, or gear you want within quick reach. The hip belt includes a gear loop and pocket, and the daisy chains let you attach carabiners fast. Heavy-duty haul handles help you secure the pack at a belay or pull it up a steeper section.
Avalanche gear has its own pocket. You can access the main compartment from the top or through the back zipper. The roll-top makes packing easier, and the front access lets you retrieve a specific item when the pack is fully loaded. The pack also has a RECCO reflector that can help rescuers find you in an emergency.
HD3 PK.EXPEDI keeps the center of gravity close to your back, stabilizing the load no matter how much gear you carry. With a smaller load, just tighten the compression straps. You can also remove the hip belt and the avalanche pocket when you need to reduce weight. Removing both elements cuts the total weight by 450 g.
The structure is reinforced with abrasion-resistant X-PAC laminate, Cordura with a ceramic coating in exposed areas, and Dyneema on the side pockets. All zippers feature double sliders, one of those details that simply must work on an expedition.
The pack’s volume is easy to adjust. The elongated construction gives you more space on longer missions, and compression straps reduce the profile when you’re packing light. An additional bottom pocket and an expanded front pocket help you keep your gear organized. All this while keeping the total weight below 1500 g.
