"Anomaly" is a photo session created by Jan Kriwol. The photographer decided to transform a view well-known to many people into something extraordinary. The combination of a passion for fashion photography, landscapes, and creativity resulted in a perfect piece of art. The story, surrounded by Gustaw Lange's excellent styling, remains in memory for a long time. Here's what Jan Kriwol says about the photography.

Jan Kriwol realized a mysterious photo session with his friends for the needs of Lange & Lange agency, owned by the brothers Gustaw and Aleksander Lange. In the session, he used an incredible, cosmic outfit from the brand Pajak Sport. To complement such clothing, he had to choose the right location - the choice fell on Śnieżka, the highest peak in the Sudetes mountain range. At its summit stands a modernist meteorological station that resembles a spaceship. The effect is stunning, and the whole session quickly went viral on the internet. We had the opportunity to exchange a few words about photography with its author.

Marcin Watemborski: How long have you been involved in photography?

Jan Kriwol: I have been involved in photography since 1999 when, as a sponsored skateboarder, I suffered a serious knee injury. I had to say goodbye to skateboarding for a while. Unable to ride a skateboard, I decided to start taking pictures of my skateboarding friends. I quickly established collaborations with magazines and worked as a skateboard and snowboard photographer for quite a few years until one day I came across a commercial photography album.
I immediately knew that I wanted to pursue this direction.

How do you perceive photography? What is it?

Photography is not the only thing I do professionally. I'm happy about that because it allows me to maintain some distance. It's the thing I like the most,

and nothing brings me as much joy as completing a photography project. I enjoy new challenges.

And tell me - what does photography give you?

Photography excites me. To such an extent that sometimes I have to hide from clients because it looks a bit strange. My first commercial studio session lasted 24 hours. I don't feel tired during it; the exhaustion only hits me afterward when I'm already at home. It's the same with personal projects.

I travel a lot around the world and passionately collect photographs of various locations for potential projects. The place that inspires me completely engulfs me. I can wander around it for days, searching for something I've seen before on the internet or glimpsed through the window while riding a taxi.

What else excites you in photography? What makes you want to create?

It would probably be challenging for me to list specifically what inspires me because it can truly be anything. I enjoy taking on subjects that are challenging for me.

The choice of a photo's theme or motif can come to my mind from all directions – from art and film to comics, from places I find interesting, and even from the characteristics of light that I observe somewhere.

what do you take photos with?

"For my personal projects, I use Sony A7R II, and for commercial assignments, I use Phase One XF. As for lighting, I often use flash lighting from the Broncolor company."
